Wine

On a different note, I finally made it to Astor Wines shop the other week and brought home a couple wine bottles. The shop, I thought, was pretty amazing – I asked if they have any apple wines and they did not, but they did point me to Julien Thurel’s Cydromel Cider (so not really a wine). It’s an apple cider and honey (mead) mix and made for a very interesting dessert wine.

But I was on a mission to find Kindzmarauli in the ceramic bottle and partially struck out. Astor had Kindzmarauli by Marani and I figured we give it a try. It was really close, but not quite it. So here I’ll admit I’m not a wine expert. I’ve now learned Kindzmarauli is a style of wine so Marani came close, but what we really wanted is the Kindzmarauli from the Dozortsev winery. So this post is a bit of a note to my future self who will likely forget Dozortsev and as well as the spelling of Kindzmarauli.

Why all the fuss? This is a wine Olessia shared with me early on and was one her family enjoyed. It has a nice flavor, a wonderfully unique ceramic bottle (each one seems to be painted just a little differently), and isn’t too expensive (usually $25 for a bottle). Also, of all things, this was a wine we enjoyed while dining in a Georgian restaurant in the Crimea.

Here’s a pic of the wine I’m looking for. I may have to resort to either ordering it off the ‘net or making a wine run to Cleveland or NJ…
