Staten Island Ferry

D’s first time taking the Staten Island Ferry. Actually, it was his first boat ride! It might have been his first time on the LIRR too.

D’s first boat ride. We are on the Staten Island Ferry.

Leaving Manhattan

Overall trip time took about 3 hours which is slow. Google Maps says it would have taken about 35 minutes if we drove. That’s ok. I was curious to get the Long Island Rail Road experience from our neighborhood as well as take the Staten Island Ferry for the first time for both me and D.

The weather was excellent – sunny and temperature-wise, just right (not hot, not cold).

D enjoyed the LIRR trains. They are quieter and they seem quicker when standing on the platform so there was a lot of action to watch. He enjoyed the ferry but I think he was worn out and hit his limit of excitement for the first half of the day. The views from the ferry are fantastic and I look forward to going back to see the cities at dusk and at night.

We didn’t make it to the Staten Island Zoo today. We’ll save that adventure for another day…
