June 6th, while Olessia & D were in Ohio, I found out my role in NYC has been eliminated. We could move to Bristol, CT and keep my job, or I could accept severance and find a new job.
Shortly afterwards, I’m firing off resumes. This city moves quick and I had a phone screen within 3 days.
A week later, as I was opting for severance, there was an option to relocate to LA. So Olessia and D returned from Ohio on Sunday and we’re all on a plane to LA on Tuesday.
We spent 6 days in LA. I was working from the LA office for several days while Olessia and D had a chance to explore. We definitely appreciated the opportunity to explore the area. It just felt NYC was a better fit for us and we’re just starting to feel settled in NYC.
Week 4, I opt for severance. July 12th (2 weeks later) would by my last day on site.
July 13th, Olessia and D leave for Russia for a five-week trip.
July 22nd I start, let’s say a sabbatical, at Cheddar (cheddar.com). They have a great team and great tech stack. It was the highest altitude I’ve ever worked from (26th floor of a 33-floor building).
Towards the end of my second week at Cheddar, I’m asked if I might be interested in having my old job back. I said I could be.
Week three at Cheddar, Monday evening, I’m offered my old job back with same everything (title, pay, desk, etc). Sounds great, but I need to talk it over with Olessia. She won’t be available until Tuesday morning due to the 7-hour time difference.
Tuesday is August 6th (and my last day as a Disney employee). I opt to return to Disney. Which then means I have to share the news with Cheddar (not fun or easy). I opt to finish the week at Cheddar to wrap things up.
August 12th, I returned to Disney – well, ESPN in Bristol, CT. I needed to pick up my computer gear and badges.
Today, I’m back at the NYC office as if June 6th hadn’t happened.
This weekend Olessia and D return. It’ll be great to see them. Hopefully, the job situation mellows out so I can enjoy my time with the two of them.
I do want to say thank you to my friends who helped forward my resume! It was greatly appreciated!
