Olessia and D dropped me off at New York Presbyterian in Flush. Because of COVID and for their safety, they could only drop me off.
Word at admissions was they just recently started performing procedures again. Two weeks ago, they weren’t even performing emergency procedures. They are still not doing elective procedures at this time, so I’m guessing mine falls under “emergency” then?
They did TEE (to take pictures of my heart and look for blood clots) and they did a cardio diversion (I think that’s what I heard them call it). They defibrillated my heart. It all went smoothly, from the looks of it. I was in at 7am for COVID testing (it was negative – no COVID) and then around 9am I was wheeled into “the lab” as they called it. It looked pretty spiffy with a LOT of gear in it. It didn’t sound like it was the first choice for the health care staff, but they made it work. (Their better choices were likely busy or COVID contaminated.) I was up and messaging Olessia around 10am and was in the lobby and ready to leave around 10:40am. So pretty quick!
So far, my Apple watch is reporting my heart is in sinus rhythm and no longer in atrial fibrillation. It’s pretty slick the watch was able to identify the issue and how serious it could be.
The hospital is COVID infected though. The staff and the rooms haven’t seen COVID for 2 weeks now, but as a precaution, I’m to quarantine as if I’m infected for the next 7 days.
