Today we attended the “SOUNDS OF AMERICA: The Full InsideOut Concerts(tm) Experience” performed by the Park Avenue Chamber Symphony. Wow! Great find Olessia!
So… The conductor studied at Julliard at the age of 15 as had the clarinet soloist. The clarinet soloist is the head of the clarinet department at Julliard. And I know the flute player that was behind us was a flute teacher, but I didn’t find out which school (I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Julliard). Basically, they seem to be a talented bunch!
We got to sit along side the 2nd violins and in front of the flute players and just about center of the conductor. What a way to experience a performance!
The show we attended was geared towards kids. The conductor did an awesome job introducing the pieces. He went around asking kids questions and got their thoughts on the music they heard.
The theme was America – classical music composed by either Americans or those who came to America and were inspired by the land. Along with the music, they projected photos they thought matched the music. They even got the audience and kids to participate with the finger snaps and yelling “Mambo!” in West Side Story.
What was fun was watching the passion. You can hear the passion. But watching the faces of the musicians and conductors and then seeing the faces of the kids. It was a lot of fun and a lot of smiles and laughter all around.
After the show, the kids got to try out instruments such as percussion, cello, violin, and flute. D tried the violin out.
