The USA has surpassed China in the number of COVID-19 cases (making it the country with the most cases now).
We’ve spent the week inside the apartment. We’ve stopped taking walks outside. Our apartment has a small balcony (you could probably squeeze 3 or so people on it and that’s about it). The weather has been a bit chilly so I don’t think we’re missing too much.
Olessia has volunteered to grocery shop Friday. It’s quite a risk. Stores should be stocked, but we’re hearing supply has been limited. The other concern is stores are closing. So far, because they’ve been contaminated. But our concern is there will be a point where there isn’t enough healthy employees to keep the store running.
I’ve been a bit anxious about the entire situation. Today it feels like those feelings have gotten amped up a bit with all of the news. The Elmhurst hospital, that is 6 miles from our apartment, seems to be at the center of the NYC break out. We’ve heard Corona (the neighborhood in Queens) seems to have the most cases in the area and Elmhurst hospital serves that neighborhood. The city and state seem to be doing everything they can. I think we’re going to have to hunker down for the next couple weeks to stay safe.
Olessia has been amazing. She’s very disciplined with making sure we stay healthy and follow cleaning protocols. She has lots of micro-biology experience in relation to growing and killing things that can make us sick. We have a very limited supply of germ killing wipes. She went through our inventory and found several items that will get the job done. Sadly, our bottle of Russian vodka doesn’t have a high enough proof to work, but if things go sideways, it’ll be used to disinfect.
I can’t wait for life to return to normal…
