Ventured out of the apartment this afternoon and took D to Manhattan. We were kind of hoping D might get his afternoon nap in, but no luck, the city was too exciting for him.
We hopped on an F train to Roosevelt Island to hop on the tram. We could have taken the F all the way in, but would have missed the views of the city. It was also D’s first time on the tram (he enjoyed it). We took the tram in to Manhattan and explored a little bit. The plan was to see the lights and windows on 5th Ave but the crowd looked like it was tightly packed so we diverted to Central Park.
On the way to Central Park, we passed by a place called Sprinkles. They have an “ATM” machine that dispenses cupcakes 24/7. (I love this city!) We went inside and I discovered they have all sorts of sugary treats including ice cream and cookies. D sampled chocolate ice cream, which might have been the first time he had ice cream, but I have to confirm with Olessia. It took him a couple moments to decide and then a smile appeared. 🙂
In Central Park, D giggled as we watched the ducks dive and resurface. I found some street food (street meat!). The pretzel was rather awful (probably could have hammered nails with it). The hot dog wasn’t bad, although maybe I was just hungry and let down by the pretzel.
D lost both of his boots at various times on this trip and we were VERY fortunate people behind us would call out and let me know. Thank you! After the third lost boot, he went bootless. This provided a new opportunity for him to try to lose his socks. Fortunately, we returned home with the same number of boots and socks as we left (whew!).
Overall, a nice unplanned trip into the city.
