TriSolve – Finding the missing triangle pieces

Pythagorean theorem is awesome when you're working with right triangles, but pre-calculus doesn't just limit the triangles to right triangles. So this program excepts any 3 parts of a triangle. Be it 3 sides, 2 sides and an angle, or 2 angles and a side. The order you enter them in doesn't matter. In fact, the program is geared to allow you to input the known values as easily as possible. Once entered, the program will find the missing pieces. If the triangle has two solutions, it'll provide both solutions as well. The program also calculates the perimeter (sorry, didn't have time to add area to the program). The input is not validated. Entering 3 of the same pieces or 3 angles will cause the program to choke. After the result has been displayed, press Home to exit or press Enter to solve another triangle.

SumArea – Finding areas under a graph

Find the area under a curve or graph. Enter an equation, the lower bound, upper bound, and the number of iterations or "boxes." SumArea then shows its work. It provides delta x (or the width of the boxes), the calculations for right end points, left end points, and middle points. SumArea pauses often to allow review of the data (press Enter to continue or ON to exit). After hitting pause a few times, look for the line with "= [number]" – this line is the sum (aka: the answer) for the calculation in progress.

Pre-Calc Trig Formulas (Notes)

You'll need to use a TI font (such as TI-92 Mini Sans) to view on your PC. But in theory, may transfer over without problems on to other TIs (such as TI-85,83,82,etc). Just copy the text (with all the goofy characters) over to the TI GraphLink Program Editor and save it as a program (it won't run so you'll need to go to Program Edit on your calculator)

Quadratic Equation Solver

Give it A, B, and C and it spews out all sorts of nifty info regarding the equation. This app was originally done on a TI-81 and perfected over time. If its a valid equation producing two real numbers, then it will let you know if its a parabola and if it opens up or down as well as the exact points it crosses the X axis and the vertex point.

Moscow, Russia

I’ve been trying not to get too excited about our upcoming trip to Moscow.  I haven’t received my Russian visa yet.  The good news is just yesterday we received a slip from the post office.  This should be the invitation from Olessia’s mom (it has to be signed for).  I’ll be picking it up shortly.  If everything looks good, it and my passport will be sent off to the Russian Embassy in D.C.  With this document coming in, it is now permission to get excited.  We can now purchase the airline tickets.  We can start planning and packing for the trip.  I’m looking forward to meeting all the new people, trying all the new food, seeing all the sites, sounds, and smells!

2006 Acura TSX

Brief Acura TSX History

The TSX was first introduced in 2004, in the USA. Outside of the US, the TSX is known as the Honda Accord. The 06′ TSX model is based off the Accord Type-S found in Japan. The TSX fills gap left when the Integra sedan was discontinued and replaced by the RSX (which only came in a hatch back flavor).

There was little change from the 2004 to 2005 TSX. The 2006 model had minor model improvements (for example: minor bumper style changes, fog lamps included, bluetooth included).  The 2007 model introduced tire pressure sensors.

The 2006 Acura TSX was awarded 2006 10Best Award “Best Sports Sedan” from Car & Driver.

The Maintenance Minder codes for the 2006 Acura TSX, from page 274 from the “2006 TSX Owner’s Manual” by Acura.

1995 Acura Integra GS-R

Brief Acura Integra 3rd Generation History

The first year for the third generation Integra was 1994 and the GS-R did come in four door and hatchback flavors.  The 1995 models are very similar to the 1994 editions but minor engineering updates throughout the car.  The 1996 Integra received OBDII (the ’94/’95s had ODBI) and minor engineering updates.

The GS-R was the top end model until the release of the Type-R in 1997.  In 1998, the third generation Integra line saw a slight cosmetic update and is usually known as version 3.1.  The easiest way to tell a version 3 Integra from a version 3.1 Integra is to check the rear tail lights.  If the turn signals are amber, then its a version 3 (’94-’97).  If they’re red, then its a version 3.1 Integra (’98-’01).  Another trick is to watch the blinking front turn signals at night.  If the entire turn signal module blinks in sync (there’s two bulbs), then its a version 3.1.  The ’94-’97s two bulbs blink opposite each other producing an interesting on/off effect.  You have to watch out, the front turn signals appear to be a favorite for kids to modify.

The third generation Integra design survived for seven years until the release of the 2002 Acura RSX, the predecessor to the Integra.  The RSX was discontinued in 2007.

Chicago 2007

Had another trip to Chicago last weekend (I’ve now lost count how many times I’ve been to Chicago).   This trip was for Jason and Leslie’s wedding (pictures in the gallery).  We scrambled out of town on Friday evening after a full day of work and made it in to Chicago 12:15pm Cleveland time (11:15pm Chicago time).  Saturday we recovered from the drive and attended the ceremony and reception (all of which was beautiful).

Before the trip, we didn’t have any plans for Sunday or Monday.  Olessia found some ideas for Sunday and a dinner cruise sounded like a great idea.  Plus, the cruise she found was a fancy one which required evening/cocktail attire (which just so happened we had brought with us because of the wedding).  The cruise was excellent.  A trip up and down the Chicago skyline during sunset, while eating an excellent dinner.  The cruise concluded with fireworks.
