In side Katz’s Deli. Olessia found some ice tea. This is the same deli featured on the Jim Gaffigan Show. We were wandering around the lower east side after having dinner at a Georgian restaurant (had to get some khachapuri – can’t find this stuff in Cleveland!). We ended up at Katz to see what they had for dessert. I was pretty surprised how busy they were for being after 9pm on a Sunday. It was a lot of fun! https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipOVzTOXG-4KvnoBRs2vKoPNqzwjw-zEYc6lvac2tf1aBlPqfOE8hspxUIZd3SPBHg?key=X0hzcEMxeDJfeXExVXdkYVFoZXF3WDRmbFIyR253 Continue reading Katz’s Deli

The garage project was a little project to scratch the itch of “did I leave the garage open?” and if it’s open, close it. I went with the Netduino to handle interfacing with the garage. It has an ethernet jack built in so networking it shouldn’t be a problem. It runs .NET code which I work with during the day and it would be interesting to see how .NET works out on the Netduino. The Netduino has a bunch of GPIO pins which can be used for inputs as well as outputs. I was going to need one input and … Continue reading Garage Project Complete
Look what happens when I’m not studying for school… Call Log – This is pretty spiffy, I think, and probably worthy of its own page. It’s a database driven call blocking app. Get your number blocked and when you call, a modem will pick up the phone and then hang up. The home phone rings for about a half ring to maybe a full one ring and then it stops. Call DENIED! 🙂 The silly cordless phone only stores 20 numbers. Now that it’s database driven, problem solved! Watch for a dedicated project page where more info and code will … Continue reading Projects in the works

Thursday, April 19th (10am-2pm, 1st floor atrium, College of Arts and Sciences building), I will be presenting two posters for the University of Akron’s Computer Science Day. The first one is for Software Engineering Methodologies (grad class), called Selecting a Mobile Platform Strategy. The other poster is for senior seminar and a 1 credit self study. It is called Kismet Mobile Client. There is a third poster, Akron General Medical Center. I didn’t present it or work on the poster though. I did work on the web site, so check them out! What an awesome Friday… Acura fixed my car for free. Our Cleveland Give Camp iPhone app was accepted to the app store and can be downloaded (search for “harvest neo” – I will get a link up here shortly). I also jail broke my iPhone and rooted my android. I can now tether my android again (whew!). Continue reading Awesome Friday
Whoo-hoo! First off, work sent me to Chicago to learn how to code for iOS (iPhone, iPod, iPad, etc). Training was awesome. The small problem with it though was it was the day after my final exam for my business class. The business class is now over and I scored an A in that class. Just 4 more classes left! I’m on vacation for the next week and a half and I’m going to take a break from studying. Maybe I will code up some iPhone apps… Continue reading Learning and such
I haven’t posted in a while! Let’s see… Our house side was replaced in February. The roof was replaced in May. I small plumbing problem cropped up and I fixed that. That’s about it for the house… Olessia graduated with her MBA (from BW) in May. Her mom came to see the commencement. She stayed for 3 weeks and we took her to several concerts and to New York. Computer news: My main XP box suffered a hard drive failure. I replaced the drives with 2 1tb drives and installed Windows 7 Pro. This setup has been working out great. … Continue reading It has been a while
So some time in early November, after 50mph gusts, the siding blew off. I found it two houses over at the corner. The house looked like this until mid January until it could get fixed. Now we have new siding! It looks a bit like this now: New gutters and new siding all within a year. Not bad! Insulation and the roof is next. Continue reading New Siding
Finally! I started fiddling with OpenVPN two years ago and put it aside until last week. Real quick, OpenVPN is an open source virtual private network (VPN) solution. It uses SSL technology to encrypt a tunnel from one internet location to another internet location. DD-WRT is an alternative firmware available for a bunch of routers. With DD-WRT, the router runs a watered down flavor of Linux. Apps meant for full size Linux have been ported to run on the router, like OpenVPN. I gave up on OpenVPN two years ago because I wasn’t a routing expert. I’m still not a … Continue reading DD-WRT and OpenVPN – Working finally!
Just finished my statistics class! That was my last math requirement. My TI-85 and TI-89 have served me well. Continue reading I’m done with math!
I just got done wrapping up “Call Block Drop” Windows Mobile application. I’ve been getting tired of not being able to block calls. There are apps out there that do do this, but they cost money. So I wrote my own. You can block a call and have it go directly to voicemail, or you can have the call dropped. Check out Call Block Drop Continue reading Call Block Drop for Windows Mobile
